January Week 2: Theme {Space Rockets and Stars}

For the Month of January we are shooting for the stars!

We are making a space book. Here are two of six pages that will be included in the space book!

***please note: preschool licensing paperwork is in full swing! I am in the middle of all the paperwork that will be submitted for the preschool application! I am still doing preschool learning activities with my son, but please be patient with my postings! :) I will post as time allows and will, eventually, post all the activities we did! Also, I will not be as descriptive as I usually am. The postings will be more of a "Pictorial" of the activities, for now, until the application is finished. Thank you! :)******

January Week 2: Alphabet {Letter Ll}

Letter of the week box: lids, letter Ll flash card, lentils, lemon, lion, letters, lock, lamb, leaf, Legos

Letter Song {U Tube Video}: "Letter L", by Having Fun Teaching

We start by listening and watching the video of the song "Letter L," by Have Fun Teaching. E danced and jumped to the song and worked on saying the /l/ sound!

Then we went through the letter of the week box. We discuss each object. While pointing to the L flash card, I say, "Lid starts with L. /l/ /l/ lid." I do this for each object.

Letter Worksheet: L is for leaves

First I have E trace the letter with his pointer finger. Next I model how to trace the letter L on a piece of paper. Then I have him trace the letter on his worksheet with a marker. I did not help him this tim!. He did so well, very proud of my Boo! Lastly, we squeeze glue for him to add the leaves.

Sensory Tub: leaves (in red, yellow-orange, and green), paper ladybugs, and three leaf trays

This was a fun sensory activity of sorting by color and counting with ladybugs!

Letter Gross Motor Activity: leaping from leaf to leaf

Letter Snack: lunch

January Week 2: Bible {Noah Part 2}

Bible: The Story of Noah- part 2
{Genesis 7} - The Flood

Songs:
1. "Who Built the Ark?", by Paul Zim: Zimmy Zim's Zoo and Noah's Ark Too!

2. "Arky, Arky", by Fisher Price: Sunday school song along

Scripture Verse of the Month: "The word of the Lord endures forever."
1 Peter 1:25

Scripture Verse Song of the month: "The Word of The Lord," by Family Seed Worship

We reviewed part 1 of the story of Noah and read page 6 in My First Read and Learn Bible. We talked about how God told Noah to build an ark. then the animals came, two by two, into the ark. Once all the animals were in the ark Noah closed the door to the ark and it began to rain. It rained and rained and rained for forty day and forty nights!

We talked about where rain comes from. It comes down from the sky. I shared with E that rain is water and the whole earth was covered in water. But Noah, his family, and the animals were dry and safe inside the ark.

Last week we listened to the song "Who Built the Ark?" and this week My plan was to hear "Arky, Arky" but E did NOT want to her "Arky, Arky" he loves the first song so we listened, danced and sang to the song "Who Built the Ark?"

We then worked on the art project. We talked about the shapes and colors.

First I had E cut the circle in half. He cut about a third of the way, with my assistance, and then I cut the rest. We glued the shapes to build the ark and added the blue rectangles for water. Once all the shapes were glued we added rain drops! We used a blue "bingo" dot marker to make rain. He loved it!

January Week 1: Theme {Snow-man}

Theme: snowman

Math Concepts:
-sizes: big, medium and small
-Shapes: circles, square, rectangle and triangle

Science: solid-liquid-gas

Sensory Tub:

Materials: "Instant Snow," styrofoam balls in three different sizes: big, medium and small and tooth picks (cut in half).

**{You can get the snow and a bag of the styrofoam balls at the Dollar Tree}**

First, I showed E how to build a snowman with the styrofoam balls and tooth picks. Then we built one together. By the third time E wanted to do it all by himself! He did really a really good job!

As he played with the "snow balls" we talked about the different sizes: big, medium and small.

As he built a snowman I would ask him which size he would need first? (big)...second? (medium)...then last? (small).

I had him point and identify the different sizes.

Art project:

With this Shapely Snowman we again reviewed sizes and shapes. E glued the big, medium, and small circle to make a snowman. He then glued the brown square and rectangle for the hat. And lastly the orange triangle for the nose.

We added three dots of glue for him to add buttons (we used clear plastic pony beads). Then we headed outside to find two small sticks for his arms. E showed me were he wanted the arms and I added the glue.

Science:

I filled up some ice cube trays and small plastic bowls with water. I had E touch it and asked him, "what is this?" He said, "water!" I responded by saying,"Yes, it's water and water is a liquid." I asked him to say the word "liquid."

I then placed the trays and bowls in the freezer. I asked him what his prediction would be ; what he thought would happen to the water. It was too cute, his response was, "burr, cold." :)

That evening we took out the trays and bowls and took a look at what happen to the water. I opened the freezer and ask him, "what happen to the water?" His response was, "it's ice!"

I shared with him that the water turned into ice! The freezer is so cold that the water turned into hard cold ice and that ice is a solid. The water was once a liquid and now it's a solid.

I placed the ice in a tray and E got to touch, observe and play with it. I added some salt, in a salt shaker, and E loved pouring the salt over the ice. We observed the ice melt and started to become a liquid again!

When E was done playing I rinsed off the salt and placed the ice back in the tray. We will go back and check to see if all the ice melts.

Once the ice melts, I will place it in the sun and hopefully it will eventually evaporate! We will see how long it will take with this weather! :)

Take a look at what else we learned this week:

January Week 1: Bible {Noah Part 1}

January Week 1: Alphabet {Letter Kk}

January Week 1: Alphabet {Letter Kk}

Letter of the week box: king, kite, kit (doctors kit), kernels, kaleidoscope, keys, letter Kk flash card

Letter Song {U Tube Video}: "Letter K", by Having Fun Teaching

Letter K Worksheet: k is for kernels

We started by listening and watching the video of the song "Letter K," by Have Fun Teaching. E danced and jumped to the song and worked on saying the /k/ sound!

Then we went through the letter of the week box. We talked about each object. While pointing to the k flash card, I would say, "Kite starts with K. /k/ /k/ kite." I did this for each object.

For the worksheet, I first pointed to the letter and said, "this is letter K" and read the sentence below.

In advanced, I drew three letter k outlines (like the k on the worksheet) on a piece of paper. I modeled how to trace the letter k, by tracing letter k on the piece of paper I prepped.

I had my son trace the letter, on his worksheet, with his finger then trace the letter with a marker. I lightly guided his hand while tracing.

After tracing we placed glue on letter K and he placed the kernels on the letter.

**{these are an edited version of the worksheets I made for the preschool last year. I hope to figure out how to make these available to you!}**

Letter K Activity: gross motor

We grabbed the kite and took it outside for a whirl! This is E's first time playing with a kite. First I gave it a try and E chased me around. It was lots of fun, laughing and running. It wasn't windy enough, so I never got it up in the air, but We still had fun. I cut the kite string and added a short thick piece of string (I used hemp string) for E to give it a try. I knew he would have fun just running with it and the thicker string would make it easier for him. He had a blast running up and down our court!

This was a fun and simple letter Kk sensory tub E enjoyed playing with it for almost an hour!

He loved simply scooping up the kernels and pouring them through the funnel into the ketchup bottle. Once the bottle was full he dumped out the kernels and filled it up again...and again...and again!

He looked for the keys and counted them.

January Week 1: Bible {Noah part 1}

Bible: The Story of Noah- part 1
{Genesis 6:9-22}
The Ark and Animals

Songs:
1. "Who Built the Ark?", by Paul Zim: Zimmy Zim's Zoo and Noah's Ark Too!

2. "Arky, Arky", by Fisher Price: Sunday school song along

Snack: animal crackers

Scripture Verse of the Month: "The word of the Lord endures forever."
1 Peter 1:25

Scripture Verse Song of the month: "The Word of The Lord," by Family Seed Worship

We will learn about The story of Noah all month long. I divided the story into four parts (just like it is in the Bible). The first week we will focus on: God asked Noah to build an ark and the animals came to the ark two by two. The second week we will focus on the flood. The third week is the dove. And the fourth week is the rainbow that symbolizes God's promise!

Message:

We started the study by reading the Bible story of Noah in the children's Bible: My First Read and Learn Bible. We read all 6 pages (we read all four parts to do an overview of the story of Noah). Then we listened to the song: "Who Built the Ark." I like this version from Paul Zim. It caught E's attention right away.

This song is an oldie but a goody! It's catchy and easy for  little ones to remember. {In the evening when my Hubby came home, I asked E to tell daddy who built the ark. He thought about it and then I asked E again, but this time I sang it just like the song "who built the ark..." And E said "Noah did!"} :)

Craft:

Next, We worked on the art project. {I pre-made the ark. I cut two slits and folded an opening to the ark and marked a number two inside. The animal stickers are from the dollar store!}

We talked about how the animals came to the ark 2 by 2. While E placed a pair of animals on the ark we sang this, from the song: "who built the ark", for each animal. ***sub the name of the animal corresponding to the animal being placed on the ark.***

"Here comes the elephants two by two, here comes the elephants two by two, here comes the elephants two by two."

sometimes we would add the sound the animal makes too. Ex: "Here comes the horses two by two, here comes the horses neigh neigh, here comes the horses two by two."

Activity:

In the afternoon we reviewed Part 1 of the story of Noah. Then played the song "Who Built the Ark?" and did this fine motor activity.

In advance I made the ark and clothespin animals. I found the images online at Microsoft clip art. E worked on clipping the animals on the paper ark. It was a bit of a challenge for him, so we did it together! We enjoyed talking about the animals and singing the song.

Snack:

E enjoyed a snack (treat) of animal cookies. We looked for pairs and talked about the animals names and sounds they make.

As E finished his snack I read Genesis 6:9-22 in my NIV Bible.

Review Questions:
Q: Who built the ark? (A: Noah did)
Q: Who told Noah to build the ark? (A: God did)
Q: What is an ark? (A: a big boat, a house boat)
Q: who came two by two into the ark? (A: the animals)

Happy New Year: Lesson Planning

Happy New Year everyone! This last year has been a year full of blessings, joy, and favor! The Lord is Good and He is Faithful!!!

There are a lot of new and exciting things the Lord is doing in my life and in my family! I will be launching a preschool for a well established Christian school. I am very honored and excited to be opening a preschool (once again!) and directing the program. There are some great ministry opportunities that lie ahead!!

I know my time is going to be stretched with licensing paper work and lesson planning for the blog, so I wanted to start the new year organized! I am happy to announce my lesson plans are done for the month of January! :) I pray that I will organize my time wisely so I can get all the licensing items done and also not let our learning activities fall through the cracks!

I just started this blog four months ago. I am still learning what works for me. I first started by posting once a week, but I learned it was too much information for one post. This time around I will be posting 3 times a week. One post a week on Bible, ABCs, and Theme.

Here is a look on how I layout my lesson plans.

I used an old lesson layout that's why there are so many blackouts. This layout was from when I was teaching on Tuesdays and Thursdays last school year. I like to see the whole week (or in this case month) on one sheet. I made this lesson plan layout on my computer using Word. Nothing fancy!

To organize my blog posts I color coded each post. Material content for the Bible posts are in purple. ABC related content is in green and theme is in blue. This way I can look back and make sure I cover all related material in each blog post.

This is what the blank lesson plans look like before writing on it.

I also made files to organize all the teaching and crafting materials. As I prep each activity I will file it away in the corresponding file! When it's time to do that activity it s all ready together in one place!

I love to hear how you organize your lessons whether you are planning lessons for homeschooling, preschool center or a blog!

Thanks for your support and stopping by! Hope these ideas inspire you!

Blessings,
Erica
